Aims:

1. To understand and recognise the different kinds of Christianity that exist.

2. To recognise the issues and dangers associated with the different kinds of Christianity

3. To assess the latest fashions and fads in Christian thinking.

 

 

Method:

1. Read The Briefing article entitled "Four competing viewpoints."

 

2. Identify the thinking behind the following statements. Discuss whether the thinking is Biblical.

 

  • It is a matter of your personal interpretation.
  • I saw this man healed.
  • The church has always had 'The Ten Commandments' on its wall.
  • Society has changed its thinking on homosexuality.
  • Miracles are impossible, Jesus could not have performed them, there must be another explanation.
  • God approves of me sleeping with her because I feel so good about it.
  • My pastor said.......
  • I heard God speak to me.
  • We had a miracle in church last night. It was so exciting we are going to do it every week.
  • Our church teaches that Mary is co-redemptrix with Jesus.
  • We had a great time of worship last night. I felt God smile upon us.

 

 

3. Discuss ministry to people who are arguing from these backgrounds.
