This book is an account of the amazing transformation of Stephen Lungu.
Set in Salisbury, Rhodesia, Stephen was the oldest son born into a very troubled home. By the age of 3 his teenage mother had run away and he ended up living on the streets by 11. This was in the 1960’s when the country was riddled with left-wing factions, and he soon became involved in one of the urban gangs, The Black Shadows, as the title suggests. He and his gang set out to petrol bomb a huge Christian evangelistic tent meeting. God, however had other plans and Stephen met Jesus that night. Psalm 27:10 “Though my father and my mother forsake me, the Lord will take me up.” This verse was the changing point in his life, as he realized for the first time that God loved him and was waiting for him.
After his radical conversion, what happened next was a course of events of the amazing work of the Holy Spirit in Stephen’s life. He had an immediate passion for other lost souls and in his refreshing and easy to read writing style he tells the story of how he is found by one of the members of the Dorothea Mission team in the area. God’s calling on his life becomes very evident as he is mentored by this man and how through his obedience and faithfulness to God, he perseveres through very difficult times. All he wanted to do was evangelize. But God knew that He had a bigger plan for his life and this involved some tough learning in the form of very basic and personal discipline. He also needed to learn to read and write and although frustrating for him, he persevered and kept focused on God and to his calling. Through the sharing of his personal testimony, many souls are saved as he travels throughout Africa.
Many years later, he is reunited with both his mother and his father, and those broken relationships are restored and both his parents were converted. He married a wonderful, godly woman and they raise 5 children.
Later, he becomes involved with African Enterprise, and through them, he does extensive traveling locally and internationally. The book shows how God can miraculously intervene and change the course of an individuals life, even the uneducated, from broken homes, whose lives are doomed and hopeless.
