  • How do women manage the balance between their maternal instinct & the pressure of a satisfying life long career?
  • What is the chief role of woman?
  • What relevance does the Bible have in its teaching about women, in an age where “women expect sexual freedom & emotional fulfilment at the same time”?
  • What sort of ministry should women be involved in?
Whether these questions are pertinent to you or you would just like a reminder of what biblical womanhood looks like in the 21st century, then this book is a must read!

In this book, James takes us through a very clear biblical framework of how God intends women to live. She starts with Genesis showing how men & women's roles were designed to complement each other & then how sin has distorted womanhood at every level. She unpacks scripture to explain in a refreshingly simple & practical way what this means for those who are single, wives, mothers at home, & women in the work place.

She challenges all Christian women to consider how they can be actively involved in ministry & describes different women's ministries in accordance with gifts & circumstances. No lady is excluded from this, particularly since she states that God has given all women a “capacity for spiritual mothering”. This is something that all ladies should be involved in, for example simply by looking out for a lady in need.

Throughout the book there is a stark & refreshing call for women to understand & live out their “helper design” reflecting that inner beauty “of great worth in God's sight”. This book is a challenging read in that it calls for women to think & live in a way that is contrary to the ways of the world. I would also suggest that it could assist men who want to mobilise & encourage women in their church to be the designer ladies that God calls them to be!
