Heaven is something we don't often spend our time thinking about. The daily pressures of the here and now seem to fog our mind from the future hope we have in Christ. Yet when we experience death, and we all do at some point, it is at those points that a flood of questions begin to swirl in our hearts and minds. Questions that we haven't found the time to answer in our busy lives, but all of a sudden become the most pressing questions to be answered. Where do we go when we die? What is heaven like? Death causes us to think about heaven in greater depth. |

Why do we not see the hope of heaven as that which will stir us to be proactive Christians? In many respects I believe that this is a result of a number of centuries in which this doctrine has slowly morphed into misplaced thinking. For many years our personal affinity to heaven has centered around the hope of escaping this world and so we have discarded the hope of Jesus return, discarded the hope of a resurrected body, and discarded the hope of a renewed creation. As a result this has created a hope that looks to leaving this world for another, donning a highly spiritualized body, and leaving creation behind. No wonder we don't see our heavenly hope exercising its rightful influence in the here and now.
This series hopes to rectify our misdirected hope, and place our true heavenly hope back on the agenda. The desire is that all will see the hope of heaven afresh and see how it should fruitfully impact our Christian walk. May we walk away renewed in our understanding, deepened in our faith, and rejuvenated in the glorious hope that awaits us.
