Hebrews is a magnificent letter written to Christians who are in real danger of giving up…they had been exposed to fierce persecution. They had been physically assaulted, their homes had been plundered, some had been cast into prison on account of their faith, others had been ridiculed in public because of their resolute trust in Jesus. Many of these Jewish Christians had accepted this adversity joyfully. But other had shrunk back…others were in danger of compromise…” (Raymond Brown: Hebrews: BST: IVP: 1982).

Hebrews is an important part of God’s word for us to consider not because we face persecution (as they did) but because like them we are often in danger of giving up. This letter is about remembering. It is about holding fast to Jesus. It is about taking care to listen to God.
