Psalms 120-134 make up a distinct section in the book of Psalms. Each Psalm carries the title 'a song of Ascents'. We don't know the historical situations that gave rise to them being written, although they were almost certainly used when the exiles returned to Jerusalem from Babylon. Wilcock says about them, "Nearly all of the fifteen share family likenesses, in their brevity, their repetitions, their homely parables, and their love for Zion..." The Psalms seem to be grouped in sets of three...which is how we will study them...they seem to follow a pattern of distress, power, security...
