Others first Romans 15:1-13

Observation

  • 1. Who bears with whom in the Christian church? How is this the opposite to what happens outside the church?
  • 2. How should Christians treat their neighbours? Why?
  • 3. Who models the strong bearing with the weak for us? Where does he do this?
  • 4. Having quoted from the Psalms in verse 3, what does the apostle teach us about the three purposes of the Old Testament scriptures?
  • 5. What high view of the scriptures does the apostle have in verse 5?
  • 6. What key action does God desire from his church (v5,6)?
  • 7. How does unity manifest itself amongst Christian people?
  • 8. What is the reason for this acceptance of Christians of each other? What does this acceptance result in?
  • 9. How does Christ model what the Christian church is being called to do?

Meaning

Christians are to put other people first, receiving one another because Christ has done this for each one of us

Application

•1. Do you think of yourself as weak or strong? How would you know?

•2. Does a service ethic permeate your thinking in your church attendance/Bible Study attendance? What might this look like?

•3. How can you build your Christian neighbour up?

•4. What does it mean for you that Christ is willing to serve you?

•5. Who do you need to accept? Examine the prejudices in your heart against other Christians. Ask God to help you to change

•6. How will you help to fight for unity in this church?

Pray

Thank God, that Christ in his strength was willing to bear with you in your weakness

Ask God to help you to bear with others who are weaker than yourself.

Ask God to help you not to please yourself but to rather seek to please others.

Ask God to help you build other people up.

Ask God to help you to accept other people just as Christ has accepted you.
